Communication's course assignment - Essay Example The tenets of rhetoric that facilitates the persuasion of the audience include logos, ethos, and the pathos. In addition to these, there are also the five canons which are also used in the design and package of the persuasive speech so that it becomes more palatable to the audience, they include the following; arrangement, invention, memory, delivery, and style. In the three presidential debates that took place between the incumbent president Barrack Obama and the former governor Mitt Romney, the duo extensively used rhetoric to persuade and appeal o the audience in all the three occasions they confronted one another in the debates. In the first presidential debate, rhetoric took a fair chunk of the time when the two presidential aspirants were asked about the inequalities at the work place. President Obama made the first remark on the ‘glass ceiling’ that his grandmother had to go through during her time working in a bank, this was a perfect pathos appeal used at the right time to emotionally connect with the audience. The anecdotic phrase propelled Obama and the women could infer that Obama understands the problem the women have faced thus stands the best chance to find solutions to them. Obama also extended by making passionate logos appeal to the women on this consciousness about them in the work place, in this regard he me ntioned the Lily Ledbetter Act that he signed during his first tenure as a vivid clarity that his concern for the women is real and not a pretence. Romney responding to the same did not score him any point given the emotional connection Obama created by using effectively the pathos and logos. Romney in response to the equality of the women at work place did not explore the effective use of rhetoric, in fact, his statement about women flexibility at work to enable them attend to household chores. The Impact of the Computer on Writing In 1999 my family purchased their very first computer. A few days after, we were connected to the World Wide Web. All of my friends had been online for years prior so it was a big deal to finally have it. Since then, the way that I communicate has changed drastically. Everything from the way that I talk to my friends to the way that I pay my bills is now done online, instead of the traditional way. The internet has offered so much change to society. Some people are still without it, and as I think about it, I wonder how they are surviving. It seems that most everything I do is related to this machine in some way. I e-mail, pay my bills, instant message, buy material items, research, keep an online journal, and I even take classes on the web. Without it I would be a mess. Upon coming into college, I finally had access to high speed internet. By any standards it was awesome. It caused me to increase my use of the World Wide Web dramatically. I could not get enough of it. It was not long at all before AOL instant messenger was the newest addiction of my life. The thought of being able to talk to many people at once and so quickly was amazing. I was able to keep in touch with my friends who had moved across the country without having to pay a long distance bill. Who would complain at all the conveniences that it had to offer. With this program I was also introduced to a new way of writing. Let’s state the fact that people are lazy. When using any sort of instant messaging system there is a way to abbreviate everything. An example of this would be typing ‘ttyl’ instead of typing out ‘talk to you later.’ Another example would be simply putting ‘u’ meaning ‘you.’ There are so many of these shortened ways. These changes in writing also show up in e-mail. People seem to be very inclined to use the abbreviated ways of writing certain words or phrases when writing out e-mails. This is more in informal types of mail. I personally do not mind it to a point, but when it is used extensively it can be annoying and distractive. Also, much of the time, even the most basic of punctuation is forgotten or just not used.

By all the efforts and new programs that government is trying to put into educational system, when we see these reports and numbers we all agree in one matter: these are not enough.And I believe if government instead of mostly concentrating on medical treatments pays more attention to youth heal th education and STDS prevention training classes, life of hundreds of people can be saved every day. The reason I chose this topic is because I'm originally Middle Eastern or in another world from a third world country. Four years ago, when I was living in my country, there was not much attention to STDS among the people and there was never any program in our society or schools to educate families and youth about STDS.Since I was always curios, I was doing research from different sources about them to be able to improve my personal knowledge about them and hopefully be able to help some people.
